The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed China's 'the twenty-Four Solar Terms' on the representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This decision was approved by the UNESCO Intergovernment Committe, for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritages on Wednesday.
China's 'the twenty-Four Solar Terms' is a knowledge system and social practice which is developed through observations of the sunís annual motion, and cognition of the yearís changes in season, climate and other natural phenomena.
China's 'the twenty-Four Solar Terms' fully reflects the concepts of respect for nature, and harmoney between man and nature. The element remains of particular importance to farmers and guiding their practices. Some rituals and festivities are associated with the terms. Knowledge of the element is transmitted through formal and informal means of education. Therefore,  China's 'the twenty-Four Solar Terms' not only enhances the cultural identity of communities and groups concerned, but also reinforces the people's attention to the intangible cultural heritage.
